Task 1d: 2d Images

My Photos.

https://instagram.com/p/zlh8TqL0px/ - This photo shows me backstage as 'Aladdin' I have fond memories as it was my first job after drama school.

https://instagram.com/p/zliDreL0p6/ - This photo is from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last year, flyering on the Royal Mile.

https://instagram.com/p/zlDAjRr0pB/ - This photo shows some of my students performing in an end of term show.

https://instagram.com/p/zlCjqNL0oU/- This photo shows an advert for a new branch of the theatre school I work for opening this weekend!

In my photos I wanted to show both sides of my career. Both performing and teaching.

I tried to embed my photos as I did with my video in task 1c but unfortunately the embed codes wouldn't load up for some reason in my internet explorer. If this is something anyone knows anything about advice would be appreciated!

Importance of images.

In social media the use of images has become extremely important. I mentioned in my audio visual task that people switch off very quickly to what they see online because they are exposed to so much. The use of photos of a way of communicating then comes into play. Sites, such as Instagram are popular among friends and professionals. You can show your friends exactly what you've been up to without them having to read some long status update.  If someone wants to see your work or business in action. You can post examples or use it as a way of advertising your business. It is a quick and easy way to share with different networks.

# Hashtag

The use of 'hashtags' can be important to allow your photo to reach your target audience. Friends and I use to laugh sometimes about it, but it does work. When I started using them people who never would have come across my posts before would 'like' or leave comments. One example of this was after a concert, I posted a photo of the concert online mentioning the name of the artist who then reposted it. My phone went off for days after that of people liking and reposting because that artist obviously has a huge network of fans. So if the aim is to make your photos reach a wide network you should mention people and places. Due to the wide range of people your photos could reach unless monitored you should be careful about what photos you do post.

Privacy and Permission

On sites like Facebook, if your profile is public, anyone could save copies of your photos. This is why I keep my Facebook privacy settings as high as possible. I love being able to share holiday photos with friends and family but they are not what I want people to see when connecting with me as a professional. When posting work related photos I stick to Instagram or Twitter, where I am posting one of photos rather than whole albums.

If posting photos of others you should have their permission, especially in my line of work as a teacher. As I mentioned in my previous blog about professional communication the theatre school I work for always gets the permission of parents or students before being able to use their photos in any sort of media outlet. For this task I asked the permission of the school to be able to use their images to repost on my own personal Instagram.

    1. Thanks Danni. There's so many things in social media - hashtags, links, comments, likes etc. I feel like I can never use them to their full potential. I use social media a lot with friends for fun, and sometimes for career but I am now thinking about it a lot more in depth.

  2. Lisa for some reason the links aren't working for me? is it my safari? My keyboard is so old I have to go to symbols for the hashtag on my home computer - oh dear! they are useful but still a bit mysterious even though I use them - good about the permission for theatre school

    2. Paula I have fixed the issue. It was because my profile was set to private on Instagram so only followers could see. You should now be able to see the photos thank you for pointing that out! Apologies for that.

I have really enjoyed reading your blogs and especially the 2D Images! Like Danielle said the hashtags are something that used to really bug me but when you use them and see there uses it's a very clever tool in the social media world!
