How I put together my profile.
Before starting this task I took some time out to look at
some of the other student’s blogs so that I could get some ideas about how to
present my CV as a profile. On the face of it uploading your CV should be a
simple task, however it was interesting to see the different approaches. The
blogs that I related to the most were those that were both teachers and
performers like myself, eg Stephanie Vezmar's blog on her professional profile was very helpful. She and others had the same
questions about whether to keep your CVs separate and thinking about how to merge these
CVs into one professional profile. Generally I have two different CVs; my performance CV, my teaching CV. Each of these CVs contain some comparable information but I feel it is key to understand the difference of what each CV should contain.
For my performing CV I follow the layout given on casting sites, mainly Spotlight. Spotlight is one of the main sites used by casting directors and recognised throughout the industry. So I have followed this format as an industry standard of what information an actor should put on their CV.
My teaching CV has more detail about each job. Whereas my acting CV lists productions I have been in.
My First Draft Professional Profile.
My Name is Lisa Meiklejohn. I am an actress and a teacher. I am originally from Stirling, Scotland where my love of performing arts began at a young age. Currently I live in London where I trained at Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in Professional Musical Theatre.
Since graduating in 2011 I have worked professionally as an actress in both theatre and short films. Some of my favourite roles being Aladdin, TIE tour and The Teller, Highland Game, Edinburgh Fringe. For my full credits please see, http://www.spotlight.com/interactive/cv/6212-4534-5959.
I first gained teaching experience as a classroom assistant at my local stageschool. In 2013 I began teaching professionally for a Children's Theatre School in North West London, as a Drama and Dance teacher. There I have learnt teaching techniques through training and learning from my colleagues. I have grown with the company and now teach 5 days a week. I am passionate about education and love doing something worthwhile and continuing to develop my career in the arts.
I would love to hear everyone's thoughts on my profile and what I can do to use it to its maximum.
Thanks for reading :)
Lisa.
Hi Lisa,
ReplyDeleteI really found your professional profile helpful and imformative. I am currently just getting started with the BA professional practice in arts and to be honest I am finding it all rather daunting.
I am very new to blogs and building social networks with others and was wondering what your best advice would be in feeling comfortable starting this module?
I am a dancer so can familarise myself with your work and professional cvs, definitely something I can look into further.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Katrina Wilson.
Hi Katrina,
ReplyDeleteI have just started the course as well in the past couple of weeks and I'm still getting to grips with everything.
Like you I found the whole blog and online presence quite intimidating but I've decided just to throw myself into it whole heartedly. I've taken quite a bit of time to look through others blogs to get an idea of what will be expected. As well as reading over the handbooks just in case there was something I missed the first time. I ended up spending ages last night playing around with layouts and colour schemes ( nothing too technical though ha).
I had a look at your profile and I can see we have both had some time since we were last students. Let's keep connected! Hope everything goes well.
