Hi everyone!
Yesterday I joined the campus session at Middlesex. I had to leave early to get back to work - so I will blog on the part of the session that I was able to take part in.
You can find a fuller account at
Paula's blog. She has also put links to the other people who attended.
We began by introducing ourselves and then doing a few games to get ourselves focused.

We had to fill the 20 squares in one minute (Left) My quick drawing of Andrea (Centre) My concept drawing (Right)
After we did these games we talked about the idea of 'Appreciative Inquiry'. Paula explained this idea as not just looking at what's wrong but looking at what's good. People always want to know what they can fix but we should also acknowledge what is good and how we can develop that.
APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY >>>> Look at the positive things.
We talked about the 4-D Cycle. The 4-D Cycle is a way to investigate something Eg. an organisation. There are 4 steps which will lead you to take positive action. This is my very basic explanation (Paula gave us some sheet that explained in more detail):
- DISCOVERY - 'Inquire into whats positive.
- DREAM - What is the organisations greatest potential?
- DESIGN - Strategies for positive change.
- DESTINY -Declare intended actions and invite action.
I worked with Andrea and Katrina to apply this cycle to BAPP arts. These are some of the things we talked about.
Unfortunately I missed the discussions about what we had come up with in out group as I had to leave.
Nice to see everyone!!

Hi Lisa,
ReplyDeleteThanks for this post. As I couldn't get the time off work, it was good to see what was discussed in the session. I like the 4-D cycle that you discussed. Do you think this is something that can be used as alongside action planning in the inquiry?
Jess.
Hi Jess,
DeleteI think it can yes. As we have said our inquiry is something that should improve and aid our professional practise so therefore it makes sense to go about this in a positive manner.
How are you getting on? Do you have much time off for Easter?

Hi Lisa,
DeleteI'm getting on ok. I am now starting to analyse data which seems early, but the term dates have been a bit awkward in terms of the inquiry. I am struggling to do this if I am honest and I feel a bit lost in this process. I have two weeks, but I find it harder to carry on with things like the Learning Journal over this time because I am now carrying out work based practices.
How are you finding things? How have your interviews gone?
Jess.
Hi Jess,
DeleteI too am feeling so lost!! I want to make sure I make the most of the next week - I am still teaching but my schedule is less jam packed as a few schools are off. Aaah! xx
Hi Lisa,
ReplyDeleteThank you for this blog, I was unable to attend due to work!! This was really helpful to read and looks like it was a productive session!
I will try and see how this will link in with my inquiry, following on from what Jess has said - did you find this way of thinking helpful in your inquiry and the current stage you are at?
Thanks,
Steph
Hi Steph - I think so I guess right now I'm somewhere between the dream and design stage - I need to start thinking about bring everything together and designing my artefact but I still have a few interviews left to carry out.
