Skype Session 25.9.15

Last night I had my Skype orientation session with Paula, Adesola, Lianne and Lisa A - for continuing onto Module 2 of the BAPP. I was keen to get reconnected with everyone after summer and get my head back into the right frame of mind for studying.

Over the summer I worked for a Youth programme. I was a mentor for a group of 12 teenagers through a range of activities. The programme challenged both the staff and the young people. I recorded as much of my experience as possible in my BAPP journal, as I thought there may be reflections that I may find usual going into Module 2. I loved the job and I think it helped me to think about myself as a teacher. All my experience teaching previously has been with children 14 years and younger. This gave me a new challenge but also showed me how interesting and smart young people are. I had some of the most interesting conversations with them and I enjoyed sharing in their ambitions and goals.

In the skype session we started by sharing what we had been up to over the summer and what we were starting to look towards now in our respective modules. Both Lianne and Lisa A are on module 3. I took a particular interest in what they were sharing because both of them work within arts and education and so this is where their inquiries are focusing. I have made a note to follow their blogs as they may have already asked themselves similar questions throughout their module 2 that I might ask myself - Special interest groups that may be worth me connecting with.

While talking about Lianne and Lisa's inquiry questions we talked about assumptions that we may make from our questions. We can't assume that everyone has the same experience as us. We have to learn to have a more expansive overview of our own thoughts.

By the end of our chat I think I realised that this is the thing I will find most difficult going forward. Really questioning myself. I don't want to pose myself questions I think I already know the answer to or I will put limits on. It's hard to step away from yourself sometimes and see the bigger picture.

I can admit to feeling rather overwhelmed coming into this next module as I have a busy term ahead with work as well. However, I hope that through keeping connected and organised I can keep on top of everything. A few weeks ago I met up with another BAPPer - Irini - also on module 2 and we had a good chat about summer and the course. We agreed that we should try and meet up a couple of times through the module as we are both the kind of people who respond really well to talking things out and connecting face to face. If anyone else feels like they would like to get involved even just for  a coffee and a chat it would be great to connect and see what inspiration we can give each other!!

Thanks,

Lisa
